Dearest Bucky, In 2007, you entered our family at approximately one year old as a shelter rescue. With all the adoptable dogs available, Kelsey and I connected with you at first sight and were impressed with your enthusiastic and happy demeanor despite your circumstances. At home, you immediately found your place while displaying a perpetual smile, sensitivity, and unconditional love. You grew up with human brothers, Kelsey and Casey, feline sister, Gigi, and became my shadow. Kelsey taught you how to “high-five”, and no matter how many times you were asked to demonstrate this trick, you would oblige-- even while lying in bed trying to sleep. You gave us the most remarkable 13 years, serving as best friend, faithful companion, fearless protector, and teacher of how to live life. You provided lessons on compassion, patience, forgiveness, remaining calm in calamity, having an attitude of gratitude, slowing down to take joy in the moment and simple things, and the art of aging gracefully. You made life easier and became a powerful source of comfort and devotion. Many thanks for conveying this wisdom to beloved canine cousin, Warrie. Your essence remains a part of all the lives that have been touched and you will be missed tremendously. Words can never express the depth of my grief or the gratitude for the privilege of being your mom and sharing time with you. I am eternally blessed as we are joined at the heart forevermore. Godspeed and peace be with you, precious Bucky. Until we meet again, I will send you a daily kiss on the forehead and whisper in your ear “I love you more!”. And for now, I will reach my hand toward the sky to meet your paw with each high five, buddy.
