February 14, 2003 - August 5, 2021
Dearest Gigi, In February 2007 you entered our family at approximately four years old as a shelter rescue. Kelsey and I connected with you at first sight and were captivated by your peaceful demeanor, sparkling green eyes, and a symbolic heart-shaped marking on the left side of your nose that sealed the deal. From that point on, your birthday was celebrated each Valentine’s Day. At home, you settled in with a silent presence and displayed your confidence and grace along with the agility to jump onto high places and observe your domain below. You became an important part of the family while growing up with human brothers, Kelsey & Casey, and canine brother and bestie, Bucky. You gave us your best every day during the most special 14½ years, serving as a source of peace, calm, and unconditional love. You became my morning alarm clock and your aura allowed me to sleep soundly. You provided lessons on slowing down and relaxing, living in the moment, and enjoying the simple things such as sitting by the window in a sunbeam. You made life easier and became a powerful source of comfort and devotion. You taught me the gifts of forgiveness, patience, courage, to accept the things that cannot be controlled, and how to adapt to change with dignity and ease. Most importantly, you showed me by example how to carry on with a purpose after the passing of our beloved Bucky. Always looking for the silver lining, we found that COVID quarantine and my work from home status for 1½ years provided the gift of quality time. You even made appearances on virtual business meetings. As your aging body slowed down, you still maintained your beautiful looks and shining personality. However, we both recognized that now is the time to reconnect with Bucky and continue your adventures together. Your essence remains a part of all the lives that have been touched and you will be missed tremendously. I realize that my 14½ years with you is a long time and a godsend. Words cannot express the depth of my grief, heaviness in my heart, or the gratitude for the privilege of being mom and sharing time with you. My earthly life will never be the same. I am eternally blessed as we are joined at the heart forevermore. Godspeed and peace be with you, my beautiful princess Gigi. Until we meet again, I will send you a daily kiss on the nose and whisper in your ear “I love you!”. For now, I will keep your spot on my lap and beside me in bed always ready for visits and reach my hand toward the sky to meet your paw. You are my sunshine. With a lifetime of cherished memories, sincerest respect, and love, Mom My precious angel, Gigi Douthitt “God bless her sweet & loving soul.” 2/14/2003 – 8/5/2021 In summary, my interpretation of your philosophy of life: -Life is a gift; find joy in each day -Always do your best for yourself and for others -Dogs are awesome -Never give up or be afraid -Love completely, and -Sleep is overrated...the years fly by and there is so much to enjoy and love to share! Heartfelt thanks to the teams at the Vet Clinic of Worthington, Schoedinger Pet Services and Aunt Laurie for making the arrangements easier on me. An abundance of love to my pride and joys: Kelsey for always being there and knowing what to say and do, and Casey for the ability to capture life in incredible photos; you are my rocks.
